Best of The Web: Hosted by Max of Tried and True Mom Jobs

Hello to all the readers of Your Money Geek, I’m Max and I run the blog Tried and True Mom Jobs.

I’d like to first thank Michael for letting me host today’s Best Of The Web!

I’m a recent stay-at-home mom trying to balance mom life, a blog, and my sanity. I started Tried and True Mom Jobs because I was looking for a way to transition from my 9-5 to something I could do from home with kids but I couldn’t find anything.

I was trying to find success stories from moms who work at home and I wanted to know what they did, how much they made, and how they do it with kids. Since I couldn’t find anything online, I reached out to moms working from home and created a website to share their stories.

That’s how I came up with the name “Tried and True Mom Jobs”. I also talk about ways to save and invest.

So that’s a little bit about me and my blog but let’s talk about what’s Best of the Web this Week.

Money Match-Up: Pay Off Mortgage Versus Invest Excess Funds Elsewhere

Do you pay off your mortgage or invest? It was a question posted in a forum the other day and it made me think if I was doing the right thing. I have a mortgage but I’m not focused on paying it off; I’m more focused on investing. I can be persuaded if I hear a really good argument and this was one of them.

This is a great article that shares two strong opinions on both sides of the argument. It’s a great read and will make you think if you’re doing the right thing.

HOW MUCH ARE YOU PAYING TO WORK?

Quitting my high-paying corporate job to stay home with my kids really hurt our finances, but it’s good to know I wasn’t losing as much as I thought. Going to work does incur some costs that you don’t typically think about. Firecracker, the person who has made me obsessed with Financial Independence wrote a great article breaking down the costs of going to work. Check it out to see how much you’re really spending if you go to work.

Stocks — Part II: The Market Always Goes Up

If you want to start investing or want some encouragement about staying in the market this is a great read from the legendary J.L. Collins. As a young investor, I need all the encouragement I can get to not freak out when the market is down. This article has encouraged me to hold on during this crazy ride because the market will always go up. JL Collins goes in great detail to show us his reasoning and it makes perfect sense.
