Getting Into The Head of The Celebrity Mentalist

My Questions are in bold, and Morgan's answers are below.

How did you launch the business?

I started as a very young child doing local shows, by the time I was 21, I outgrew my market in the small town in Missouri that I grew up in; that’s when I formed Liquid Metal Productions and relocated my offices to Las Vegas.

Who were your role models and inspirations growing up?

David Copperfield, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Harry Blackstone Jr

Did you get to meet any of them?

I had an opportunity to perform for David Copperfield and his crew

What was it like like performing in front of your role model, were you nervous?

It was awesome! David is a massive inspiration to me; to this day, he is still a hero of mine.

What is one thing that you have learned from running a successful business?

Team building is critical. You can’t do everything. Surround yourself with energetic, creative people. My Dad always said: “Take your time hiring, but be quick to fire.”

Looking back, is there a mistake you made that you wish you could change?

Working with my family didn’t turn out the way I planned.

What advice would you give someone starting?

Get someone to help you read and write contracts, for most of us this isn't our primary skill, and it can make or break you. I would tell them to make a 5-year plan, set goals, and never take no for an answer. Don’t expect to make a profit immediately; it might take a year or more. I was a 15-year overnight success, so I had to learn these things the hard way.

What are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of getting to do what I love for a living. If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.

I see you have some big shows coming up, what work goes into preparing and setting up a show?

It depends on the show. I have a multimillion-dollar illusion show that takes dozens of people to set up and takedown and a smaller mentalism show, which I mainly do because I can control costs. I create most of my material and usually spend months rehearsing for a tour or extended engagement.

Do you ever get nervous before a show?

I get little pre-show jitters, but I don’t get nervous anymore.

What advice would you have for people who still get nervous doing shows or giving presentations?

My advice on public speaking or performing in front of an audience is, go somewhere and be bad. Go act and speak at any engagement you can. I went overseas and did hundreds of shows to get my chops. Once I fell and busted my butt in front of 40,000 people in a stadium show in Asia! Everyone laughed in unison. I wanted to crawl into a prop and hide, but I got up, and the show went on.

Any exciting projects you are currently working on?

I’m working on a pilot for a new TV series and fan film, Doomsday vs. Superman.

Sounds cool, any chance you need to cast a Money Geek?

Sure, we could always use a Money Geek! Are you available?

I Sure am, The Celebrity Mentalist and Your Money Geek Show, let's make it happen!

How has social media impacted your business?

Social media has helped immensely; I can talk and interact with fans and keep my brand in the public eye.

Where can fans find you on social media?

You're also an author; where can people find your book?

You can purchase my book on “cold reading” “ICE COLD” here!

Running a business, promoting, and marketing can be a challenge; how do you manage it all? Are there any apps, books, or tips that you use?

All I can say is thank God for my team and my fantastic manager Dan Hodgkinson, he and his staff at Image Management Group, are a big help!! You can’t do it by yourself, find good people who share your vision.

How do you manage time?

I have a large whiteboard hanging in my office where I have a daily schedule as well as things I'm working on, and of course, I always have my iPhone at the ready!

Are there any apps you can recommend?

Well, I consider Twitter, Instagram, IMDB, and all the social media apps as tools for my business. But my advice is; don’t try to do them all. Pick one or two that fits your business profile best and focus on it.

If someone was having a hard time managing a project, is there a book you would recommend?

Master Your Time, Master Your Life: The Breakthrough System to Get More Results, Faster, In Every Area of Your Life by Brian Tracy!

How necessary is fitness to your success?

Fitness is essential! Not only is it good for your physical health, but it also helps reduce stress.

How do you find time to exercise?

Usually, in the morning, I do Mixed Martial Arts. If I can't make a class, I can exercise at home with my son. Sometimes my workout is doing yard work, try to change it up and keep it fresh.

As a mentalist, do you have tips, tricks, or hacks for people to improve their mindset?

Knowing how people think, which is essential in mentalism, so I study psychology, body language, and observe people’s behaviors, mostly, I’m a people watcher. Harry Houdini used to say, “What the eyes see and the ears hear, the mind believes.”

You mentioned traveling overseas, do you have any travel tips you have picked up along the way?

If you fly a lot, enroll in the TSA prescreen, it saves lots of time, and you'll fly through security. I try only to have a carry-on when possible, no checked bags. I don’t wear a belt, I wear flip-flops, and my metallic objects and laptop are in my carry-on luggage. When I'm doing a show where I'm selling merchandise, I mail it to the hotel, and it's waiting for me at the front desk when I arrive.

I know you’re a gamer, what games are you playing now? And what, if any, games are you looking forward to?

I'm more of a platform gamer, and my preferred platform is X-Box. I love playing Halo, Call of Duty WW2, and Elder Scrolls Online. I can't wait for the new Halo for the new X-Box X!!!!

Do you play games with other celebrities? When you are gaming online, do people know who you are?

Yes, I do game with a few other celebrity friends, it's a great way to stay in touch. Yes, I do get noticed when I play on my Morgan Strebler account, but I have other accounts when I want to play incognito.

What cool projects are you working on now?

We have a new TV series that we're pitching. Here is the rundown in it.

“Between Life and Death!” is a ground-breaking television pilot project centered on the weird, wonderful, and whimsical world of psychic entertainer and mentalist, Morgan Strebler. Unsuspecting people, innocently going through their everyday routines, will be caught up in Morgan’s mind-bending antics leading to highly entertaining and even shocking outcomes! Even viewers at home will succumb to a wide range of emotions, as they unwittingly become “virtual voyeurs” on Morgan’s unpredictable roller coaster ride!

This innovative, original pilot reflects Morgan’s dream to expand his surreal art form beyond live audiences and into the living rooms of people around the world via television. Every show Morgan would do a Live interactive piece through the Television, for example, bending silverware in people's homes across the nation. He would then have people through social media display their results.

The magic on this series has been in development for the past three years and is VERY different than what people are used to when watching a Magic Special.

Here is a brief description of one of the effects.

Morgan asks a female spectator to think back to her childhood. He asks her to think of that one gift as a child that she never got for Christmas. He has her vividly picture the gift in her mind. Morgan then asks if she ever wished upon a star. Morgan waves his hand towards the sky, and a shooting star passes. (No Camera Tricks) He has her wish for that gift. Without ever telling what she was thinking of, Morgan brings out a gift-wrapped box with her long-lost present inside.

To promote the series, I want to “Die” in Time Square. I would be hooked up to medical equipment and monitors, showing my vital signs. In front of a LIVE crowd, the doctor would shock my chest with defibrillators. Until I “flatline” on the table. The doctor has 3 minutes before he brings me back to life. The audience comes up to the table. I start turning blue, cold, and have no pulse in my wrist or neck. The audience is encouraged to feel and examine my lifeless body. The doctor then shocks my chest again until I come back. (THIS IS SAFE)

All of the material on this series will have a very “real” feel to it. I also believe the audience stunts at home on each show will help them connect as if they were there in person. Plus, the use of social media and viewers interacting with what just happened will be a first.

Sounds awesome, can I get a sneak peek?

Sure, here is our sizzle real

What is one thing you wish everyone knew?

Listen to what you know instead of what you fear; it will serve you well in life!

Last question, Harry Potter or Gandalf?

Harry Potter, of course!!! He’s a boss!! Hahaha #WizardLife

Thank You

I want to thank Morgan Strebler for taking the time out of his schedule to do this interview. Morgan is a fantastic Mentalist, as well as an author, business owner, and father.
